Capra's "The Web of Life" posits three key criteria for living systems--
they are pattern of organization, structure and life process. He defines
pattern as the "configuration of relationships that determines the
system's essential characteristics." I think that Wheatley's
organizational pattern can be defined in the same way. She stresses the
similarities that exist between organism and organization.
