John Mulligan commented on getting things done
Getting things done requires self discipline to take action based on the
right measures. It takes both organizational and personal discipline. That
is the hardest part of changing culture developing the discipline to take
action.
Covey address this in his story about the mentality of the farmer whose
actions are dictated by the seasons and the mentality of the student who
can postpone and cram. Most of us have developed the mentality of the
student. Cram and make out ok.
The really good organization takes action when the process shows signs of
deterioration. Others take action when the process has gone wrong a
produced a bad part. or other poor result.
It is painful to fix when the only force is the indicator. It is easy to
rally around a bucket of bad parts returned by the customer and get
action.
