Replying to LO14925 --

Hello, fellow learning-org readers!

I've really enjoyed the Compassion & Sense of Beauty thread. I'm glad
so many of you have found the serenity and strength in Christianity to
carry on gracefully with life. Many others have chosen equally
valuable paths through Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and many, many other
philosophies and theologies. I'd like to reiterate what Don Kerr said
in LO14925:

>and I know He [Jesus] is the WAY to a personal relationship
>with God. I'm just not sure He is THE way.

Don's concern captures the main sticking point I as a Buddhist have
with my friends who are Christians. I make no claims that what is dear
to me philosophically is the ultimate answer for everyone (my beliefs
are A way). But Christians believe that Jesus is THE ONLY way. I have
trouble with this because it seems so closed.

Please pardon the bluntness of my questions, but I really want to
know: Is it hard for Christians to grant others of different beliefs
enough consideration in these philosophical discussions when
fundamentally they believe their own ideas are the only "right" ones?
Are such discussions skewed from the start? Or is there hope for a
meaningful dialog in such situations (I hope so)? How do Christians
reconcile their belief in Christianity being the THE way with all the
other ways?

Can someone out there help me? Wandering in the wilderness looking for
the Great Ocean is fun, but words from other travelers are the gems of
the journey! :-D
