Replying to LO15077 --

The comments regarding "electronic watch-dogging" sent shivers through my
body.

As I was retiring from the Federal Government, my agency was just
beginning to get familiar with the internet. Some of the first business
the Executive Council concerned themselves with was how to keep employees
from surfing "outside" their functional duties.

NASA had always prided themselves in creativity. Yet it startled me to
disallow an avenue of global wholeness and thought along with
unprecedented incidental learning. I offered another view of the
situation -- how this might be goodness. But.....

During the heat of some very stressful days on the job, I would "fire-up"
my "Missile Command" game and have fun and reflect while once again
learning that control is just an illusion.

I am so very happy that I'm writing this email from my business practice
office. Because when I'm through I can surf around and learn who knows
what. I can even go play an electronic game, and then work. Often the
trouble is that I can't tell the difference between the work and the play.

Freedom. Not from worry or responsibility. But of choice.

Thankfully,

John
