Repeating Pogo, "We have met the enemy and they is us." They face
increasingly valid threats as well as consolidation, yet a repeatedly
direct statement of these issues as not as yet pierced the veil. This
forthcoming reorg will likely see them through the next two years and will
be the structure and supporting process that allows them to weather
competition and consolidation - all the more astonishing that such results
are expected in such a short time.

To my understanding, anytime a big org has a major re-org, it will meet
plenty of resistance, especially when there is turf war to begin with. It
may also cause temporary performance setbacks due to the change in the way
people work. Executing the re-org itself not happen overnight, and
fire-fighting the implications may take them more than a year.

Given the above assumptions, is it still feasible for them to sit down
together to formulate a more lasting change that will preserve their
market leadership well into the next century?

Good luck.
