Please allow me to introduce myself. As a consultant in strategy and
organisation for nearly 25 years, (1/3 of that time with Arthur D. Little
and the latter 2/3 on my own) I've dealt with "Learning Organisation" (LO)
issues for some time. My particular focus has been in using
organisational structures and systems to help articulate and communicate
strategies and policies within complex enterprises. My interest in the
general ethos of the subject goes back before my consulting career and my
MBA and even my earlier "real world" experience in finance to my
undergraduate days at Stanford where I first cottoned on to the simple
beauty of Chaucer's description of the Clerk from Oxford, "And gladly
would he learn, and gladly teach."

I joined this list a couple of weeks ago and have found a number of
threads of special interest to me. Among them are the ones on:

-- how to foster LO concepts in Theory X organisations (e.g.
LO15181 and all the subsequent postings it has engendered)
--how to use measurement to build an organisation's learning
capacity (e.g.LO15083 and LO15100)
--the importance of communications (in the broadest sense) in
promoting organisational learning and building intellectual
capital(LO15205)
--the relationship between strategy, "management," and
leadership (LO15179)

I'll probably be posting some of my own thoughts on these and other issues
over the next few days. My basic interest in the list, however, is to
learn, and--so far, so good. Thank you all who have posted during my
brief "membership" for your contributions.

Cheers

Richard Goodale

[Host's Note: Welcome Richard, and we'll be looking forward to hearing
from you. ...Rick]
