I thought I'd offer and seek some thoughts on the subject. However if
you're all bored to death with this, maybe someone would point me in the
direction of where it's covered in the archive.
Can shared visions be developed in most organisations? In a large
organisation it may be logistically impossible to do so in any meaningful
way. In a small organisation, your vision only counts if you're the owner
/ senior manager.
What may be more important is aligning personal vision with the stated
organisational vision. In other words, if you want my buy-in, help me get
my own vision clear then show me how it can be achieved by helping the
organisation achieve its stated vision?
If Vision is to be more than Motherhood, it needs to be as concrete as
possible. People need to see precisely what they are aiming for. However,
they often struggle with getting their vison precisely defined. The
Fieldbook has some practical exercises for this and I've picked up a
couple from this list - the Bicycle exercise works well - and we have
produced newspaper articles set in the future to get people thinking. I'm
happy to give more details. Any other good, practical tools that people
have used?
Delighted to discuss anything else in this area.
By the way, if anybody involved with the workshop I'm running reads this,
it's all about the continuous search for new ideas. I AM already competent
- don't worry!!
