You bet. As I used to say in sales, "Money moderates behavior," as the
salesperson, as much by the opportunity for revenue maximization by over
quota performance as well as the personalities that gravitate to sales,
distorts behavior (and the lax firm's strategic plan) to wherever the
money is.

And in a more general sense, Drucker wrote, a few books apart (and I might
be a be off in the exactness of the quotations): If you can't measure it,
you can't manage it... That which gets measured, gets done... Distortions
are mighty when the latter is forgotten in the face of the former.
