As evidence that there really is a problem here, I quote the Dilbert
cartoon from Sunday Nov. 9...

The pointy-haired boss, wearing a golf shirt, opens the annual engineering
conference saying, "Employees are our most valuable asset. And like most
assets, you decline in value over time."

"I know what you are thinking: not all assets decline in value... For
example, fine art is worth more every year."

He shows a photo of Wally on the screen and says, "But, I don't think the
Louvre will be asking for one of these any time soon."

"On the way out, Mr. Catbert will give each of you a certificate of
depreciation."
