> > Are Humans Resources??

I think that the issue is not whether or not humans are resources but
whether they are well maintained. I phrase this as the "golem or mench"
issue. The golem was the automatron created out of mud in legendary prague
to help protect people from bad forces. It was okay until he thought he
was a human. "Mench" is the yiddish expression for a real human being who
is giving, caring and authentic. The Golem was eventually destroyed
because of his over reaching- the company that treats its employees as the
golem will self destruct over time. The Mench company survives - note the
Malden Mills example - fire destroyed the factory, but the owner rebuild
the factory, keeping up his payroll in the meantime - his investment in
his human resources!

The best view I have read about this issue is what Annie Brooking wrote in
her Intellectual Capital book:

"If people are considered as a corporate asset, then training is their
maintenance. Maintenance programmes which deliver efficiency are also
assets, so therefore corporate training is one of the major ways in which
employees of the third milenium enterprise will receive nourishment."

When I was not well maintained by my employers I walked!
