What are we missing here? The rise of small entrepreneurial businesses
started by all those bright, able people who have been downsized. I know
of one engineer let go by IBM from their HQ in their big restructuring who
is now doing specialty renovation of homes in Northern California . One
of his recent jobs was a $70,000 closet. He has bounced back and is doing
now what he was trained for in engineering school.
The problem is that most of the media do not have this on their radar
screens, and so we don't see it. Downsizing is painful, but often results
in good things happening.
