Replying to LO16047 --

In reply to LO16047, I have the following thoughts to the questions
concerning a "Knowledge Worker"

1. What a knowledge worker does may depend greatly on one's occupational
field, but in a general sense, it is a person who works with data and
information and packages the information in a format that allows the end
user to make an informed decision.

2. A knowledge worker may be another buzzword for a desired type of
employee. I personally think that as a health care analyst, I have been a
"knowledge worker" for a number of years based on the definition I offered
in response number 1.

3. As a follow-up to number 2, think of anyone who works with data and
information (one could argue that thinking in these terms means the
category of knowledge worker is very large). Specific examples could
include health care analyst, market researcher, financial planner,
librarian, securities analyst, journalist, etc.

4. How does one prepare to be a knowledge worker is an excellent
question. I don't really know. Perhaps someone who reads for breadth and
depth as well as someone who enjoys working with information may make a
good knowledge worker. A good knowledge worker should also be comfortable
using computers and other "tech toys".

5. How one applies for a job as a knowledge worker depends on the job and
what the applicant can bring to the job.

These are just one person's opinions. I'm sure you will get many more.
