Just ask them what is takes to be successful: in school, work, home, etc.
Get some discussions, some paper, organize the responses. They KNOW what
it takes, no doubt about that. I do this with my students all the time:
why write inn math class ? why is prrroblem solving important ? I did a
session with our parents during a Parents Weekend once about curricullum
and curr. deevelopmeent. I started off with a few small groups and asked
them "whats important to learn and how do we learn it ? " They hit every
single point that I could possibly make and hit on most of the major
theories of education and cognition. Their vocabulary was differeent but
the content was there.

Just ask, they know.
