the definition of organization--straight from an American dictionary
(Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged):
1. the act or process of organizing
2. the state or manner of being organized
3. that which is organized
4. organic structure, composition
5. a body of persons organized for some end or work
6. the administrative personnel or apparatus of a business
7. the functionaries of a political party along with the offices, committees,
etc.
8. an organism
See, Dina--in American, even our own dictionaries have a problem deciding
what an organization is. I hope that this helps a little bit, though (and
good luck!)
(by the way, in the "organizational" discussions that occur on this list,
definitions number 5 and 6 are most commonly being used.) If you can find
Judith Gordon's, Organizational Behavior (ISBN: 0132325624), it give a
pretty basic history and perspective of that particular science (org.
behavior) and has an extensive bibliography.
