I think it was Jean-Francois Lyotard (literary theorist and philosopher)
who said something like "a thing becomes an -ism when it is no longer
capable of raising the question of its own limitations."

I side with Lyotard, practice and advocate questioning of all "-isms."

I'm not prepared to die over it though ;->
