Replying to LO16965 --

At de Lange made a number of good points in this ongoing dialog about
communications and meanings and dialog and the like.

And he says:

>However, if the one party in the communication process uses a neologism
>while the other party refuses to acknowledge it because it has a new
>meaning, then the communcation will fail.

and goes on to make a number of other interesting points. And sometimes
these discussions get a bit heated as one person with The Answer competes
in ListTime with another person with The Answer.

But this discussion also got me thinking of language and specificity and I
remembered one of my most favorite medical terms that matches some of the
difficulty in communications and the tone and text of this thread.

A medical doctor once said that a particular symptom was an:

"ideopathic anomoly"

Isn't that a wonderful way of saying, "I do not have a clue" without
admitting that one doesn't have The Complete and Absolute Answer or total
understanding of precursors and individual operating paradigms?

Guess a lot of these performance appraisal and communications problems in
most organizations are some of those,

"Ideopathic anomolies"

...that may clear up of their own volition in their own time,
