In reference to the postings on simulations with a systems-oriented
approach: There is a new, interactive computer simulation called,
"Balancing the Corporate Scorecard," that High Performance Systems has
developed about the "balanced scorecard" approach to performance
management. For those who are not familiar with the balanced scorecard
methodology, it presents a more holistic approach toward strategy
implementation by focusing on the interdependent, non-financial drivers of
performance. Of particular relevance for this listserv, the balanced
scorecard approach specifically considers the impact of intangibles that
are often over-looked (like skill development or knowledge transfer
between functions) on a business' productivity and ultimately its
financial performance.

This interactive multimedia product can be used individually as a
self-paced learning tool, yet it also lends itself to a variety of
facilitated group formats. A detailed facilitator's guide is available
for approved faculty and corporate trainers. Some of you may have
experienced a pre-release version of this product at last year's Systems
Thinking in Action conference.

For more information on this simulation, you can visit the Harvard
Business School Publishing web site at
http://www.hbsp.harvard.edu/frames/groups/cases/index.html, then click on
Multimedia Simulations under the Products menu.

HPS will demonstrate this Interactive Simulation and other Learning
Environments at our upcoming systems thinking workshop and free open house
in Chicago the second week in May. For more information, please contact
