Bob, I liked your post very much.
I know many managers who would envy your having some 'time'.
In my own experience (not very much as a manager, more as a consultant)
the best thing I could do when I had time - was to think ahead so that I
was better able to notice and remove blocks and barriers to my teams
performance. The difficulty was often to do this in a way that liberated
performance rather than became unintentionally controlling.
