In reply to Don regarding school improvement, I do not know where your
staff is in terms of continuous improvement, however I would suggest
introducing that concept as a starting point. Generally, when a
comprehensive approach to change is taken, it can result in significant
differences being realized. Ask the staff at a meeting what they would
consider to be areas for improvement, then prioritize them and discuss
what milestone they wish to achieve in the areas they consider most
important. Almost any group will set their sights higher than is
preconceived and most will hit even higher than set. Some surprising
results are reported in the literature on models of school change ( I have
studied some nine successful models in the US). There is a downside in
the form of misinterpretation of the results. When your school somehow
becomes remarkably improved you may become the target for criticism from
