Responding to Caring LO18583
Dear List:
What I have NOT heard in the responses to this post is: what can be
LEARNED from the experience of not caring for another? I do not think
that not caring is a rare event and I believe that it tells me something
about the social system in which I am a part. The LAST interpretive
technique should be to blame an individual and/or to saddle an individual
with the attributes that lead one to not care.
As an organization development consultant who uses insights from psycho-
analysis and psychotherapy, as well as social systems theory, I regularly
ask: what is my contribution to the situation? what does this event (not
caring about a particular individual) say about the system as a whole?
Why is the group (or system) calling upon this individual to play this
role at this time? Etc.
Hope this adds another angle to the discussion.
Best regards,
Cliff Briggie
