"SITUATED LEARNING, LOCAL KNOWLEDGE AND ACTION: SOCIAL
APPROACHES TO THE STUDY OF KNOWING IN ORGANISATION".
The symposium will take place at the Westin Hotel, Sierra Room on Tuesday
11 August 8.30 to 10.30 am.
The event aims at bringing together proponents of research programmes
which develop the idea that organisational knowledge cannot be conceived
only as a mental substance residing in members' heads, but must rather be
approached also as a form of social expertise, that is, as knowledge in
action or practice situated in the historical, social, and cultural
context in which it takes place and embodied in a variety of forms and
media.
The symposium aims to deepen the understanding of the relations among
knowing, learning, acting, and organising processes when viewed from a
variety of social and critical perspectives.
Pannelist include Frank Blackler from the UK, Silvia
Gherardi from Italy, Etienne Wenger, Lucy Suchmann and and Dvora
Yanow.
