Before I am more specific about my request ... by way of introduction ...
I have been listening on the list for some time ... all proving to be most
enjoyable. I am an entrepreneur who writes, publishes and undertakes
action research. I instruct part,part-time at the local university where
I play with theory to practice. Other times, I play with practice to
theory to practice with my clients.
My formal education winds its way through forestry, geography, outdoor
recreation, environmental geography ... finishing with adult education.
My last foray in university resulted in an EdD (Adult Education) with my
major paper directed at "Developing and Validating a Holistic Learning
Framework for Organizational Learning Consultants and Adult Educators"
(1996). It is now that I am putting this framework to use in my work.
Enough about me ... about my request of you. The course is part of a
certificate in adult learning, with the elective theme of "workplace
learning." I present the _learning organization_ course ... while two
other instructors present "learning in the workplace" (individual learning
overview) and "team learning." The students in my course work within
organizations in various capacities. They are seeking new ideas to
understand their organizations while completing the certificate that can
lead them onto baccalaureate university studies through credit transfer.
My request of you:
1] Do you have a course outline (table of contents) to share? ... provides
an outline of titles for what you would include. This request is not
limited to university or college (formal) settings as I am aware of
entrepreneurs who present this type of course.
2] Are you aware of and can you point me in the direction of tools/surveys
that people within the organization complete to gain an understanding of
themselves as a learning organization? ... for example, in my earlier
research, I came across Dr. O'Brien's "The Learning Organization Profile."
My students ask for these types of tools.
3] Expaning on #1 ... What suggestions do you have about _content_ for a
course on learning organization? ... please do not limit it to thirty
hours. Based on responses I would be pleased to compile thoughts and
present them back to the list. Also, if you request, I will supply my
content ideas for this course to the list and/or individually.
4] As one who uses experiential learning techniques (metaphoric activities
like group juggling, play parachute and mindfield) ... I am interested in
your approaches to presenting learning organization and organizational
learning concepts. I am aware of the following manual: Kirk & Kirk (1997)
_Training games for the learning organization_ McGraw Hill. Again, I will
compile and respond to the list or individually.
Thanks and take care
