I really appreciated what Benjamin Compton wrote in part because I agree
with most of his sentiment - and in part because I think the jury is still
out (at least in my head). My (please pardon my repetition) Singapore
example contradicts most of the points I read. Singapore's leader since
1959 has said he thinks western democracy inefficient. I agree, but I
prefer ours. On the other hand, I do not think our current (hopefully not
late) economic strength is due to the President. And yet I think we might
do ourselves a favor by treating ourselves to better government - my
understanding is that Singapore pays its department heads 4 or more times
what we pay our President - while we have spent $40+ million on personal
behavior. They also learn - and are reshaping their school curricula in
acccordance to stress creativity and entrepreneurship.
Some time ago Clinton I believe said "It's the economy, stupid". I would
say "It's the government, stupid"
