Replying to LO19483 --

When this came up some time ago I cited a reference. It was from an arab
proverb called On knowledge.(so that does not really help us a lot) and
the arab proverb was

Unc Incom "He who knows not and that he knows not that he knows not
is a fool....shun him"

Con Incom "He who knows not and knows that he knows not is
ignorant... teach him"

Uncon Com "He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep....
wake him"

Uncon Com "He who knows and knows that he knows is a wise man ...
follow him"

[Host's Note: I think the last one in Ian's list should be "Con Com"...
Conscious Competence. ...Rick]

This puts the two competent ideas around the other way to the usual
display of this model. I like this way believing it indicates that the
highest level is about mastery and the ability to pass it on.

When you reverse the two competent ideas to be conscious competent and the
unconscious competent this is usually used to indicate the higher level
being when you can do things with thinking. The often cited example being
driving.

I like the model and use it in both ways. If I use the more common, none
arab proverb version I usually add a further level which is "being able to
pass on the skill (or whatever knowledge it is)

Hope this helps people.
