The formula you describe is often attributed to David Gleicher, but I do
not know the context in which it was presented. It was mentioned in
Beckard and Harris (1987) Managing Complex Change; Addison Wesley,
Reading, MA; p98.
Also in Jacobs, Robert (1994). Real-time Strategic Change;
Berrett-Koehler, San Francisco, CA; 1994; p. 122
I collected this wisdom from Steve Pembleton who (was/is) a subscriber to
this list.
I have found it a very useful model as well. The R factor is usually
referred to as Resistance.
