Comment on David Faulder's message
I am particularly struck by your comments about ISO and Investors in
People as badges. I have done considerable work as a researcher, adviser
and employee in organizations seeking ISO and IiP accreditation.
1. ISO 9000 often brought in good processes that people found valuable,
but it was usually of patchy benefit at best. As others have noted, once
achieved it is often parked until the next accreditation visit.
I am more concerned about IiP. It ought offer so much, but rarely does
so. Look at all the organizations that have achieved it and then decided
not to go for reaccreditation. EMployee development and knowledge
development ought run through the whole of an organization's strategy and
processes. IiP seeks (with that awful triumphalist title) to place
people first. In practice it often merely helps enshrine the continuing
ghetto-ization of HR.
