Thanks to Suzanne for her words of encouragement and realistic view of the
process and energy it takes to transform an organization into a "learning
organziation". I too realize the value of finding champions ...both in
senior management and informally within the organization. All to often, I
think those of us practicing in the field forget that our first challenge
is to educate and articulate in many ways (media, etc) the core values and
beliefs associated with this transformation. After a particularly
frustrating week, wondering if my professional presence will ever make a
difference in my work environment ( I have a newly created position) I
recall a quote from Dawn Steel's book, "They can kill you but they can't
eat you", and she says, if you can't get in through the front door, try to
back door, if that doesn't work try to the side door, and if all else
fails go through the window" .
