This is a perspective on how to deal with the PERCEPTION
OF STRESS around the Y2K situation. It is a powerful learning
opportunity for us all...if we approach with an efficient attitude.

INNER QUALITY TIP - HEARTMATH AND YEAR 2000

We will be offering periodic tips over the next weeks and months that we
hope will bolster your individual, family and organizational ability to
use your heart intelligence in dealing with whatever the Year 2000
computing crisis (also known as Y2K or Millenium bug) is likely to bring
your way.

Y2K is unlike any other potential 'disaster'. Nobody knows for sure what
will happen or when it will start. People will do the best they can to
prepare, try to stay calm and helpful, and go about picking up the pieces
as soon as it's over. The key view of HeartMath in all of this is to try
to help people manage their emotions whatever happens. It's important to
help the PEOPLE- before, during and after?

>From a heart intelligence perspective, the focus must be on seeing Y2K as
providing opportunities for us individually and collectively to be
creative and do things new and differently. Without knowing for sure how
Y2K will impact any of us, here are two quick thoughts:

One major problem will be STRESS - added layers of stress due to an
inability to fix things and the inconveniences that result, increased
frustrations with the perceived efforts (or lack of efforts) of others,
media enflaming people's fears, and other unknown factors. What is likely
to result is a stress-induced breakdown in people's ability to stay
healthy and balanced and be productive.

You have HeartMath tools that, when sincerely practiced, allow you quick
and easy ways to say no to stressors as they come up, and to do that in
the moment not afterwards, thus avoiding stress-created damage to your
health, well-being and relationships.

Another major issue will revolve around CARE versus OVERCARE. How will
you intelligently choose when to let go of things you can't solve and move
into areas where you can be a part of a solution or work to find an
alternate or contingent plan of action? What will you do to stop overcare
drains and leaks in you, your family, and your organization's systems so
you can be fully present to deal with the real problems?

The balance you need from true care and not overcare, knowing when to stop
letting people and situations bleed away precious energy so you can be
healthy and productive, is an important step in maintaining the best
resource you have - you. Make sure to identify and manage overcare
issues, attitudes and reactions as they arise. Practice now so you are
prepared for whatever the Year 2000 brings.

Rather than a set of problems revolving around computers, view Y2K as a
set of opportunities revolving around people. We encourage you to use the
tools you have as your best preparation to help yourself and to help other
people.

Examples below that perception shifts do work when individuals
access Heart Intelligence for Emotional Management

* Motorola - 93% of participants reported increased productivity AND
teamwork with a 22% gain in quality. The plant's entire staff is being
trained in HeartMath technology. 5 of 16 executive participants were
hypertensive at the onset of training. After 6 months NONE WERE
HYPERTENSIVE and all could control their blood pressure in stressful
moments.

* Hewlett-Packard - 85% director level participants reported being tired
often or most of the time. Post training only 41%. 61% reported being
EXHAUSTED. Post training a reduction to 18%! The group also reported
significant improvements in communication effectiveness, decision-making
and work satisfaction.

* Boeing - a design engineer reports, "After looking at the project I was
about to start and seeing that it would take who knows how many hours, I
decided to go to the HeartMath class just to take a break. Using the
techniques taught me in the class, I w ent back and successfully completed
a complex and difficult project in just under an hour."
