I've always appreciated the loose moderation Rick provides. I view the
list in much the same way I do the Letters to the Editor in my daily paper
where, despite the excesses and shortcomings of some authors, there are
many hidden ideas and much useful information waiting for the patient
reader. But having researched my own work for too many years now, I too
find it a bit distracting that so many young (?) contributors simply ask
for a handout. My suggestion for those who wish us to hunt down their
assignments is this; Come to the table as an equal, not as a beggar.
Contribute what you know and what you have noticed about the world to the
discussion and I'll wager that it will move the entire group forward.
Tell us what you have found already and why it is meaningful and I
guarantee this group will add its comments, advice, criticism, and general
counsel.
