Dear listmembers,

Rick kindly allowed me to post the following festival announcement to this
list.

The 1998 IDRIART festival 'ARTS IN BUSINESS' at Borl Castle in Slovenia
was a great succes with contributions from artists, businessleaders,
politicians, trainers and consultants from all over the world. Therefor
we are happy to announce the 1999 festival:

***ART AS A TRANSFORMATIVE INSPIRATION IN BUSINESS LIFE AND COMMUNITY***

More indepth information about this IDRIART festival can also be found here:

CREATING THE FUTURE is not simply a process of linear thinking and the
repetition of traditional patterns of action. Art can show us the
underlying principles of renewal and change. Art can show us how to extend
our personal perceptions and to create a fundamental ways of recognizing
the growing complexities of a world dominated by specialization and
technology. And it can show us how to transform them.

About Idriart and Miha Pogacnik.

*IDRIART = Institute for the Development of intercultural Relations through
the Arts.

In music, the recognition of quality and harmoniousness, as well as the
ability to understand the contribution of every detail to the good of the
whole, can be experienced. As a practical capacity this understanding can
teach us to orient ourselves in the world of business and to raise our
consciousness. In music, as in business and indeed all life, we find the
seed of action, the seed of direction, contained in the very first note of
a work. Perhaps it is not obvious, but it is there. It is the seed that
leads us to the timely solving of problems and to ways of conceiving things
on an integral basis - methods which also translate into social, cultural
and ecological action.

Artistic experience, the discovery and experience of resounding archetypes
of composition, the reliving of a crisis point as the condition under which
new reality can be created, the discovery of a pioneer phase as it moves
into differentation and finally into an integrational phase: this is the
experience that leads to the ability to develop concrete ideas and to allow
them their transpositional power. Miha Pogacnik works in this direction: he
offers the inspiring experience of art in its concrete relation to the
business process, working with such companies as Auchan, Aveda, Body Shop,
CCS - Clinic Catering Services Germany, Ciba-Novartis, Esprit, Hess Natur,
IBM, Sava, Skaltek, Shell, Trois Suisses and Weleda, as well as
organizations such as Ashridge, Greenpeace, Natural Step, Social Venture
Network, World Business Academy, World Business Council for Sustainable
Development and the World Economic Forum.
Most recent is his contribution to the new Fifth Discipline Fieldbook 'THE
DANCE OF CHANGE'. <http://www.fieldbook.com/>
MIHA POGACNIK IS A VIOLINIST. And he is a composer. He composes festivals:
IDRIART festivals, festivals where people meet people.

IDRIART, the Initiative for the Development of Intercultural Relations
through the Arts, which Pogacnik founded in 1983, follows a dynamic
principle - that artists and their audiences purposefully travel throughout
the world and gather in places that really need them. In these places
IDRIART can take the initiative to intervene in political, social and
cultural situations. Thus, IDRIART has been working in synchronistic ways
within the global stream of awakening and radical change.

The 1980's saw its first IDRIART cycle, which in its special way united
Dresden, Budapest, Prague, Cracow, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Tbilisi - the
former East Bloc and the former Soviet Union with western Europe and
America. Miha Pogacnik had his first contacts with China, his first
activities in Beijing. IDRIART took place in the Amazon and in other parts
of Latin America. And as of 1990 IDRIART had penetrated even into isolated
regions such as Tibet, Kirgistan, Siberia, Mongolia and Botswana.

And Europe? If the madness that has recently stalked the former Yugoslavia
can have any meaning, then it must be this: to teach us that nationalism,
religious fanaticism and the lust for power are forces that must be
transformed if they are to be prevented from triggering repeated
catastrophes in other parts of the world.

IDRIART brings together music and theater, for example, or landscape and
architecture, pedagogy and medicine, ecology and economy - so that people
can meet people (and meet themselves as well): Culture against War, Art as
a Creative Force for Peace, ART AS A TRANSFORMATIVE INSPIRATION IN BUSINESS
LIFE AND COMMUNITY
