I have particularly found the book "Smart Work" by Lucy Freedman quite useful
and a good start. The work is based upon the principles of NLP which started
where you are located (Santa Cruz). Lucy also runs Syntax, a consulting firm
that specializes in corporate communication. Their site is located at:
http://www.syntx.com/

This should give you a start.
