Dear Bryan,
To me, appraisal systems ought to result in development. I personally
have a hard time separating the two. On the other hand, I've seen (and
participated in) many appraisals that doubtless had little impact on an
employee's development. I guess I would like to think that no one -- not
appraisee or appraiser -- spends time on a process that isn't designed to
result in development. Or am I missing a crucial distinction? I'm
interested in this idea. Harriett.
