Dear Listers:

I am starting a discussion group, ROInet to explore, develop, and promote
practical ROI approaches. The sole purpose of this list is to provide a
forum for interested individuals to discuss ROI related issues, such as
theoretical foundation, conceptual framework, methodologies, and their
applications and practices in HRD, TQM/Six Sigma, OD, training, WBT/CBT,
Performance Management, Knowledge Management, and more. This idea was
triggered by my recent experience on searching a group on this topic My
search was not fruitful although there was one ROI discussion group but
hey, they want your credit card number before you can join the
discussions.

Return on investment (ROI) for HRD has been a hot topic in many
human/organization/technology behavior related field for about a decade.
My impression is, the ROI campaign of last decade only partially solved
the 'why' issue. The issue of 'how' is still perplexing and puzzling
most of HRD practitioners and researchers. In today's literature and
practices, one can hardly find any rigorous and robust ROI analysis. Many
authors/experts complain the scarcity of sound ROI studies. I am
convinced there are fundamental drawbacks within current mainstream ROI
methodology, which is obviously lack of solid theoretical framework.
Hopefully, through this ROInet discussion group, we can collect our wisdom
and give ROI study a boost together.

To subscribe to the discussion group, please send an email to
