Bruno Martin Soares made the VERY interesting point that, in his view, the
problem is not the profit motive as it is the power motive. I would like
to say two things:
1. Let's not forget that most are NOT saying that profit or money is bad.
They are only saying that putting profit BEFORE higher goals like service,
etc. is bad.
2. I think Bruno has hit the nail on the head when he says that pursuit
of power (over others) is motivated by neurosis or psychosis, and as such
can be a very harmful thing. I think that it has led to the very
unhealthy organizations we work in and with today - they stunt the growth
of employees by forcing them to regress to a level of maturity more suited
to a child.
