Shewhart associated 3 Sigma with common causes (Standard Deviation). When
multiple individual processes within 3 sigma are combined (99.73) they are
multiplicative. For example, if you have a sytem with 25 processes, each
with 3 sigma, you may have a significantly reduced yield.
