Greeting from Malaysia
My humble views on the above from the perspective of how I learn and how
organisation learns, (not from the perspective of relevancy of ISO or LO
or its effectivenss or in-effectiveness, etc.) ...
Background : Working in a large corporation, (see myself more as
Organisation Observer and Thinker, althought official title is Quality
Manager, then HSEQ Manager,) implemented ISO 9000 system for the
organisation.
My sequence of learning ideas affecting me on the above subject.
>From Dr. Deming philosophy, to ISO Quality System to Learning
Organisation ...
For the above I need to borrow the thinking model of LO i.e.
Organisation Iceberg :
Tip of Iceberg : Symptoms or Outcome
Middle : Patterns and Trends
Bottom : Structures.
Tip of Iceberg : Organisation having many problems, issues, defects
Middle : Patterns and Trends of above symptoms, sometime not
fully realised by organisations
Bottom : Organisation sincerely want to improve the situation
using something : ISO, Reengineering, TQM, LO etc.
>From LO perspective, Structures are somethings that cause or give rise to
Pattern of Behaviour, and ISO 9000 Quality System is one aspect of the
STRUCTUES especially with is procedural approach to aim to do thing
consistently, or conformance to stated requirements (which of course, need
to be tested, audited, reviewed for further improvement)
>From LO 5 disciplines [Mental Model, Systems Thinking, Personal Mastery,
Team Learning, Shaved Visions] there are other more important structures
that drive the Quality System to produce the desired outcome and result.
Hence the blending of the two : <System> and <Disciplines> is really great
funs and learning opportunities to organisations.
