One more thought: I am convinced that many who regard humans as resources
regard them (humans) as "inputs" in their system view of an organization.
I think that regarding human beings as input resources is a significant
contributor to our organizational performance problems. Viewing people as
an input encourages the manipulation of human beings as expendable
commodities and discourages awareness of people at all organizational
levels in the leadership of the organization. Knowledge, consciousness,
creativity, and excitement (the resources human beings bring) engineer the
planned interactions of the organization.

So, perhaps there are at least three different ways to view people:
expendable (as is found in reactive organizations); interactive (as found
in interactive organizations); or, essential (as found in high performing
organizations). (I think the term essential sounds alike like
essence...hmmm...coincidence?)
