Hi Dutch,
what a coincedence: you live in Abilene, and your mail is right next to
one refering to the Abilene Paradox, which is one of my favourite
paradoxes.

In all processes, energy is transformed from one kind of energy into
another kind of energy, while the sum remains constant. There are several
kinds of energy, the most commonly used are bio-chemical energy,
electro-magnetical energy, nuclear energy (mainly free, from the sun),
gravitational energy and heat (the movement of molecules). Potential
energy is mostly used in connection to gravitational energy, but any type
of energy has the potential to do "work". Energy always follows the path
of the least resistance, so when you know what kind of work you want to
have done, you can set it up and it will do the work for you.
Power is either the amount of work the energy "holds" or can do for you or
power is the force (at a given moment) the energy will excercise on its
application.
The language of physics (which in itself is the language of poets and
writers; physicists just beg, borrow and steal the words. Recently for
instance: "quark" from James Joice) can be applied to human thought and
information.
In my experience, consious and unconsious thoughts and feelings create
"tension", potential energy, in my brain. These tensions can be small, for
instance when reading a typing error, these tensions can accumulate, there
is the error again, these tension can reach stress-levels, HE DOES IT
AGAIN, and have to be released (i say, well, OK, he tries, or i stop
reading or i think well, i'll correct his typing errors, or i'll drop him
a line to get a spelling checker). Also, these tensions can be stored for
future reference (Aha, so you're the man from the typing errors, hmm).
(Note: re-ference means: re-making, re-using),
This release of tension, in my opinion, follows the path, the flow, of the
least resistance; and this path is detemined by my character (usually i
get mad when i see a typing error) and my knowledge (in the past it didn't
stop people from making errors, so, why bother, or use them for jokes).
These tensions guide my actions: i react, i respond. I react using
bio-chemical energies. Nowadays we have build amplifiers, harnassing
electro-maganetic energies to convert these energies around the globe. But
that is another story.
However, there is so much information and so little processing capacity
(and no reference manual) that many of these processes in my head and the
knowledge is unconsious, implicit, tacit, summarized in easy-to-use rules,
generalized, tip-of-the-tongued. Furthermore, this language is not my
mothers tongue, so translate thoughts for the second time. And i have to
talk using metafores. And, last but not least, i have to make assumptions
on the values, thoughts and feelings of others when responding.
So these reactions, these pattens of energies (and counter-reactions,
coreactions, gngngn) may lead an ordinary family to making a trip to
Abilene, which turned out to be an error (or was it a lesson?).
Take core,
Jan Lelie
