Because of the interest in the topic of "touchy-feely" training, I thought
a definition of some current training practices might be useful to the
group.
Touchy-Feely Training = Boss hears about a system that works at XYZ Corp
and hires a Facilitator to convince people to take off their socks at
meetings.
Woo-Woo Training = Boss reads about odd new training fad in airline
magazine and hires a Peruvian Chicken Farmer turned Kung-Fu Master to
implement it companywide.
Voodoo Training = Boss expects training to raise the dead - training
department immediately sets out to produce zombies.
Trickle Down Training = Boss attends two week seminar in Jamaican resort
and sends constant reminders to everyone in the organization about the
value of the experience.
Tickle Me Elmo Training = The Boss buys the latest fad toy, pays too much
for it, and brags about being first in line at the store.
On-the-job Training = Boss yells instructions at participant while he or
she is busy doing something else.
Just-in-time Training = Boss has been talking to Accounting Department and
has confused inventory with knowledge again.
Makeup Training = Apply all your training at one sitting and quit worrying
about spreading it out evenly. Also known as Tammy Faye Training.
Learning Organization Training = Where people who know better try to prove
it to those who are unable to grasp the concept.
