I'm sure many of use have encountered this situation.

I believe that we (in this profession, area of work) often believe that
this is resistance and only resistance.

I'm not sure.

Often it is resistance and then a way (using more questions!!) is to flag
this up with a question like "Why is it so difficult to get you to
investigate, you seem to want to get straight to the chase. You may miss
something important!"

Sometimes I believe we like to be too reflective and insufficiently action
oriented. As Bill Buxton said in a post I read this evening, we need to
remember what we are trying to achieve (in relation to touchy-feely
thread)

I have not pat answer. I know I find it difficult to be clear when I am
meeting resistance and when I should be pushing on.
