A week ago Chris (M/F?) Mathison asked the question: 'why is it in today's
society the white male is the leader of the majority of the major
companies'.
In a moment of wonder, creation, or perhaps just emptyness, an answer came
to mind. After I had crafted it and was ready to click the 'send button',
I had an uneasy feeling. I was concerned that when read this brief answer
might produce an argumentative if not emotional response. After all, when
a message is sent over the Internet sans context to who knows how many
people with who knows what background and sensitivity, it is impossible to
predict how it might be interpreted.
My concern was somewhat justified. Over the past week I have read 7
e-mails that referenced my answer to Chris's question. Four came to me
directly, and 3 were posted back on this learning- org network. In the
former, learning-org members personally shared with me the humor with
which they read my answer or in one case how that answer should be
extended to males in other (non- American) cultures. Two of the publicly
distributed e-mails expressed hurt or anger for my characterization of the
white male. Ooooh, sorry, guys.
Meanwhile, no other answers to Chris's question have been circulated.
Ladies and gentlemen, dispute and/or interpret my answer as you will and
on the basis of your own lenses, but is there no another answer to Chris's
question or it just a trick and biased question to begin with??
regards,
Tony D.
