Rol suggests that I:
Request the names of operating managers in companies that a) do not use
pay for performance systems, b) claim to achieve high performacne on
standard financial measures, and c) have solid measures of employee
satisfaction. Benchmark these people and let me know what you find out.
Rol, thank you for the suggestion - I will pursue it. In the meantime,
there must be a story or opinion behind the path you suggest I take. I
would be really interested in hearing your view. My time demands are such
that I don't know how quickly I can complete your challenge, so please -
share some context with me.
P.S. - can anyone supply me with the names of operating managers who may
meet the qualifications listed above?
It may also be worth noting that my organisation - the New Zealand Police
- is a public service with strong cultural clashes between the need for
economy/efficiency and the drive to provide the best service possible.
There is a definite divide between 'bean counters' and 'operators'.
Regards,
John
