Geoff,

We use a version of process mapping to uncover those tasks that might not
need to be done or might be better done in a different path. We also link
the communication mapping to see its connection to the work flow. This
whole process is integrated with a GRID Organization Development approach
that increases the candor and trust (definitely needed where downsizing
has now created a major block to anyone revealing the true nature of THEIR
OWN work!!).

The process has been used very successfully at Motorola in Austin, Texas.
