I also use Hitler as an example of a Leader in a behavioural style grid. I
do not take the same view as you about the sum of the parts.
I prefer to observe that he acted as a great leader (leader being someone
who gets others to follow them and to achieve extraordinary results).
HOWEVER where he was leading was wrong, awful, fundamentally flawed etc.
It highlights one of the issues surrounding Leadership. If the views and
ideals of the powerful leader are flawed in some way the outcome can be
dreadful.
I prefer to identify with the leadership behaviour in a positive light and
to utterly decry the values.morals/intent behind the behaviour.
I find it useful to add this value dimension to discussion about
leadership.
