Hi Lee

I noticed your remarks on Lotus Notes as ICT support for OL and KM. It is
possible to use Notes as front office solution for the user interface. In
fact each browser can be used. Normally I advise against Notes and in
favor of Explorer because in Europe practically everybody has Microsoft.
Although KM and OL as concepts differ, their ICT infrastucture is the same
providing the support on distribution, acquisition, interpretation and
organizational memory. At this moment there are to my knowledge no high
tech solutions available that cover all aspects for a km infrastructure,
but it will not be long till there are. This is what I believe is
happening:

The next step will be a revolutionary way for suppliers to provide HR
services and their systems to the customer. This will be called the HR-Web

What in fact happens is that the complete menu-structure of a system is
pulled out of it and integrated in webapplets, together forming the HR
plaza. Currently the term Communities of Interest (COIN's) is used for
this HR plaza. One can address this community as the Workplace community

Communities converge relevant content loading data into HR processes that
may span different content and systems to help complete disparate
transactions. For example, a single enrollment process can take an
employee through defined steps to check personal data, look for job
openings review benefit plan options, compare options that match the
individual preferences, review a proposed options plan, model the
individual payroll and enroll in the plan. Many content providers and
several business activities are integrated in one community. In fact each
HR process is a potential community.

The difference between communities and applications is the combining of
content and/or data from various sources. Based on the role that is
assigned to them employees access these communities from appropriate
perspectives.

Aside from the Workplace community one can define the Management
community. This includes the former Manager Self Service. This community
enables C-level executives (CEO, CFO, CIO, COO) and other functional
experts to perform analysis and monitor organizational metrics. The
Management community takes on a "balanced scorecard " view of the
organization.

This approach supports the trend towards one user interface, one stop
shop, individualization, open standards for interfacing
