Whenever I hear someone say that someone else doesn't "walk the walk", I
immediately suspect the two of them haven't agreed on standards or defined
their terms adequately.
For an executive to say, "I want customer focus" is virtually meaningless.
For the same executive to say, "I need you to...because...and this is how
we'll know you are doing it..." might be more helpful.
This doesn't excuse the worker who hears the executive say, "I want
customer focus" and immediately throws up his hands because the executive
doesn't exhibit what the worker feels is good customer focus.
This is not to say that people are not hypocritical, just not all the time.
