Are you aware of the MCI's Occupational Standards for Managers. It was
produced before your own study (I think) but it is generic - and
cumbersome.
In my own experience this is a difficult area to generalise.
Organisational culture and style have such a large influence on the local
definition of competence. Do you agree? I feel a diagramme of
influencing factors coming on!!
Also
Competence must be related to specific functions even in general
management - mustn't it? Risks must involve very different calculations
in different fields - surely?
Where is the dividing line between competence, experience, skill, and the
learning and myths of the organisation as a whole? I hold no cherished
opinions on that one and would like to hear from others. How general can
these elements be?
I'd like to know what you think.
Cheers
Pat.
This is posted to the group as I havn't heard that anyone has done
anything with the MCI standards. Sorry to those who get multiple
postings. If it *is* being used for anything I would like to know.
