Actually, for me, you triggered an insight. I'd rather uncritically
agreed with the responders that agreed with the withdrawal approach. It's
natural, when feeling betrayed by someone you trust, to withdraw the trust
unilaterally, to in effect disable them from hurting you again. Your
questions suggest another possible course: give the other at least one
chance -- go to him/her and say "Ouch!", and allow the possibility of an
apology and maybe even a satisfactory explanation.
